The Story

This is an eight-story collection set across Bolivia and other striking locales, including Mars and Paris. The stories repeatedly center on uncanny disruptions: possession, mysterious phenomena, violence, grief, and the intrusion of the supernatural into everyday life.

Across the collection, characters include adolescents, children, mothers, doctors, colonists, and others whose lives are shaken by death, trauma, colonial history, or strange events. Several stories use shifting voices or nested narration, and many leave motives or outcomes partially obscured.

The overall movement is from ordinary or familiar situations toward unsettling breaks in reality. The collection links the fantastical to indigenous presence, social conflict, and apocalyptic feeling, creating stories that are brief, intense, and often open-ended.
