The Story
A girl called Eight lives in Surdus, where every day follows the same rigid routine and individuality is forbidden. She is expected to remain obedient, silent, and indistinguishable from the thousands of other girls around her.
Eight starts to feel that she is somehow different, which puts her in danger. When she notices another girl who seems to feel the same way, her private uncertainty becomes a real possibility of escape and resistance.
As Eight moves toward that escape, the world around her becomes stranger and clearer at the same time. The book builds through questions, inner experience, and gradual revelation, leading to an ending that recontextualizes what came before.
