The Story

In a future shaped by medical nanotechnology and strict social welfare, disease, crime, and many forms of harm have been nearly eliminated. But this “perfect” order depends on constant monitoring, social pressure, and the surrender of privacy and bodily autonomy.

The story centers on Tuan Kirie, who once joined a suicide pact with two other girls as an act of rebellion against the system. Years later, now working for the World Health Organization, she becomes involved in a new crisis and is drawn back toward the people and choices that shaped her past.

As Tuan investigates, the novel moves between her adolescence and the present, gradually revealing how the society works and what it costs. The narrative builds toward a bleak confrontation with questions about consciousness, free will, health, and what it means to belong to humanity.
