More about this book

The Story

John and Naomi are devastated after losing their young son to a rare inherited disease. Determined not to face that loss again, they seek help from a geneticist who offers advanced screening and the possibility of designing a healthier child.

What begins as a medical solution quickly becomes something much more unsettling. The couple is presented with choices about their future child’s traits, while hints emerge that the scientist’s aims may go far beyond what they were told. Naomi becomes pregnant, and the situation grows increasingly strange.

As the children develop, their differences and behavior force John and Naomi to confront the cost of their decision. Outside pressure, fear, and conflict build around the family, and the story moves toward a tense and disturbing reckoning over science, morality, and parental responsibility.
