The Story

Kim Teel is searching for her missing sister when she is captured and brutally abused by hostile aliens. Near death, she is rescued during an interstellar encounter by Emperor Wray and his warriors, who bring her aboard their ship and begin helping her recover.

When their transport is forced down on a remote planet, Kim and Wray are stranded together long enough for distrust, care, and attraction to grow into something deeper. Wray hides some truths about himself while trying to protect her, and Kim must navigate trauma, culture shock, and the radically different social rules of his world.

As their bond strengthens, the couple faces family history, political pressure, and a society shaped by scarcity and control. Kim’s presence challenges Tornian assumptions about women, relationships, and survival, while Wray has to decide what kind of ruler, partner, and future his empire will need.
