The Story
Nathan Bray is a marine biologist traveling by ship with his seven-year-old daughter, Jessie, when an inexplicable event causes the ocean to vanish. Stranded on the dried-out seabed with a few other survivors, they must confront thirst, danger, and an unknown landscape while trying to stay alive.
As the group moves across the exposed ocean floor, the journey becomes a test of endurance, parenthood, and survival ethics. Flashbacks and memories add context to Nathan’s grief and the choices that shaped his life before the catastrophe.
The story follows their increasingly desperate attempt to reach safety or civilization, while the world around them becomes harsher and more uncertain. The ending is presented as bleak and emotionally intense, with the narrative withholding full explanation for the disaster.
