The Story

Eleanor is sent to a prestigious school for the “best and brightest,” hoping it will lift her out of a hard life and into something better. Instead, she finds an institution built to reshape students, suppress difference, and enforce one approved way of living.

The story moves between Eleanor’s time at the school and her life years later as an adjudicator, where she monitors others who have gone through the same system. As she tries to understand what really happened there, memories of Rose and other classmates pull her back toward the school’s hidden purpose.

Piece by piece, Eleanor uncovers the lies behind the Meadows and the larger society that made it possible. The narrative centers on identity, trauma, resistance, and the risk of choosing truth over safety as Eleanor tries to survive, remember, and hold onto the people she loves.
