The Story

In Midkemia’s frozen Northlands, a Kingdom raiding force and a Tsurani patrol arrive at the same overrun outpost and discover that survival requires cooperation. Both groups are already exhausted by a long war, and both carry deep resentment from past losses.

Cut off behind enemy lines and pursued through harsh winter terrain, the two sides must navigate shortages, danger, and constant mistrust while a more ferocious third enemy closes in. Their leaders are forced to manage their own soldiers as well as their hatred for each other.

As the march continues, the story follows shifting loyalties, hard-won respect, and moral choices about duty, honor, and what it costs to keep men alive. The central tension is whether battlefield enemies can become temporary allies without destroying each other first.
