The Story

In a fractured future former United States, sixteen-year-old Noam survives a deadly viral outbreak that kills his family and leaves him with the ability to control technology. That survival makes him valuable to Carolinia’s government, which trains witchings and uses them for power while treating refugees and outsiders with hostility.

Noam accepts access to elite training so he can learn more about his abilities and quietly look for a way to oppose the government from within. He is pulled into the orbit of powerful figures, especially the defense minister and the minister’s son, while his own loyalties are complicated by grief, activism, and the dangers of being seen as aligned with the regime.

As political tension rises, Noam is forced to navigate distrust, secrets, and a slow-building connection that makes his mission harder to define. The story builds toward escalating conflict, moral pressure, and an ending that leaves major questions and consequences for the next book.
