The Story

A besieged city is ruled by gods and demigods, while mortals live under military pressure, factional conflict, and constant danger from monstrous attackers. The story follows several people from different social positions whose lives seem separate at first: a mortal champion, a rebellious young soldier, a demigod working against her own side, and a noble officer caught in family expectations.

As the chapters alternate between these viewpoints, political maneuvering, betrayals, and competing loyalties begin to connect the characters. Military duties, secret missions, and hidden powers push them toward the same larger conflict, while the city’s internal tensions grow alongside the external siege.

Dragons, magic, and questions about power and identity become increasingly important as the story moves forward. The book builds toward a larger confrontation while leaving major threads unresolved, with the different storylines converging only gradually and ending on a cliffhanger that points into the larger series.
