The Story

Fifteen-year-old Green lives with her family near a city where they sell produce from their garden. When she stays behind one day, a catastrophic fire destroys the city and takes her family with it, leaving her alone in a ruined, ash-covered landscape.

Green withdraws into grief and guilt, changing how she lives and how she sees herself. She hardens into an altered identity, shutting out the world while the damaged land around her reflects her inner state. Along the way, she encounters survivors, neighbors, and animals who interrupt her isolation.

Through those encounters and the slow return of growth to the world around her, Green begins to heal. The story follows her movement from devastation toward self-recognition, as she learns to live again and to tell what happened to her.
