More about this book

The Story

Avery Byrne is a queer college student in deep depression and on the verge of ending her life when she learns an asteroid will hit Earth in nine days. That news stops her from jumping, and she decides to stay alive long enough to spare her loved ones more pain and face what’s been weighing on her.

The novel moves between Avery’s present-day countdown and flashbacks that show how her mental health, family pressures, religious conflict, and feelings for her best friend Cass have shaped her. As the end of the world approaches, Avery is forced to confront secrets, strained relationships, and the ways she has been shrinking herself.

During those final days, Avery reconnects with family and friends and begins to understand what it means to be honest about who she is and what she needs. The story follows her through grief, love, panic, and tentative hope as she tries to decide what it means to keep going when tomorrow may not come.
