First published 1991
The Story
Michael, a divorced truck driver, picks up a young hitchhiker in the desert and lets her stay with him. She introduces herself as Sati and soon claims to be God, unsettling and intriguing the people in Michael’s life.
As more friends, neighbors, and acquaintances gather around her, Sati leads quiet meetings and conversations about silence, happiness, acceptance, and inner peace. Michael remains skeptical, but he and others find themselves affected by her calm presence and unusual answers.
The novel follows this growing circle as doubt, curiosity, and spiritual questioning deepen. Whether Sati is truly divine or not remains unresolved, but her influence leaves a lasting mark on everyone who meets her.
