Kipexo, a battle-wounded alien commander recovering from injury, is urged to adopt a human to help around the house and improve his chances of returning to duty. He expects a servant, but Ethan arrives with his own resistance, hidden pain, and a communication barrier that complicates everything.

As Kipexo and Ethan learn how to understand each other, their relationship shifts into a consensual dominant/submissive dynamic shaped by care, restraint, and trust. Ethan’s deafness and past treatment change how Kipexo interprets his behavior, while Kipexo’s own trauma and recovery shape how he responds.

Beneath the romance, the story hints that the human rescue-and-rehoming system is not what it seems. As Kipexo begins to question what he has been told about humans and his society, larger secrets and conflicts emerge, and the book ends before those questions are fully resolved.
