Hannah is traveling under heavy protection to testify about a human trafficking scandal when she meets her bodyguard, Falk. During a layover, catastrophic explosions and an alien attack upend everything, leaving the world shattered and most women, children, and animals gone.

As the survivors emerge, Hannah and Falk must navigate a brutal new order where resources are scarce and women are treated as prize and property. The two move through ruined spaces, search for shelter and supplies, and encounter other survivors whose motives are not always safe.

Their survival depends on trust, vigilance, and Falk's relentless protectiveness as Hannah faces the aftermath of prior violence and the dangers of the new world. The story is split into two parts with a major time jump and continues to center their bond as the larger apocalypse unfolds around them.
