After a cataclysmic flooding reshapes the world, a strange violet salt emerges from the Dead Sea and becomes the engine of a new economy and a new regime. In the fortified Colony, power is held by a corporate consortium while the salt’s addictive influence keeps people compliant.

When the Governor dies unexpectedly, six high-ranking residents each write letters explaining the crisis and revealing fragments of the colony’s hidden order, private fears, and political rot. Their testimonies do not agree cleanly, and the truth must be pieced together from shifting perspectives and carefully delayed clues.

Elsewhere, a crossword creator and journalist is drawn into decoding the letters through his unusual puzzle-making method. As he works, the story turns into a mystery about authority, guilt, and survival, building toward a final revelation that reorders everything the reader thought they knew.
