Wolf Star
A kidnapped bride is trapped in a shifting jungle palace, where strange rooms and buried family secrets complicate escape.
First published 2002 · Claidi Journals
The Story
On the eve of her wedding, Claidi is kidnapped and taken far from home to the Rise, a strange palace hidden in a jungle and cliffside setting. The only other human there is Prince Venn, and neither of them understands why they have been brought there.
Claidi’s confinement becomes a slow exploration of the palace’s moving rooms, its mechanical or altered servants, and the strange people and creatures around it. As she tries to make sense of the place, she also begins uncovering clues about Venn, her own past, and the tangled family history surrounding the Towers and the Wolf Star.
The book focuses less on constant action than on atmosphere, clues, and Claidi’s reactions to confinement. Its narrative builds toward revelations about relationships and identity, while the immediate problem remains how Claidi can escape and what the strange place she’s trapped in really means.
