Chrissie is a mother and wife whose fear of loss is intensified by unresolved grief and family strain. When a stranger offers her a way to prevent the deaths of the people she loves, the price is choosing others to die in their place. As Chrissie tries to understand the strange bargain, the story alternates with earlier timelines involving scientists and a secretive research project. Those scenes gradually reveal the origins of a medical breakthrough tied to regeneration, secrecy, and dangerous ethical choices. The present-day plot and the past eventually converge, exposing hidden connections between the characters.
