Calculated Risks

Sarah Zellaby and several members of the Price family wake up stranded in an alternate dimension after a disastrous math-driven escape. Sarah is still herself, but the others no longer remember her and may see her as an enemy, forcing her to prove who she is while everyone tries to survive.

The group must navigate an unfamiliar world full of giant insects, strange indigenous people, altered magic, and other hazards, all while figuring out what happened to the transported campus and the zombified cuckoos left behind. Sarah’s powers, her species, and her relationship with her family all come under pressure as she grapples with what she is becoming.

As they search for a path home, the story becomes as much about trust, identity, and consent as about survival. Sarah has to reckon with her future, her relationships, and the emotional cost of what she did to save everyone, while the book gradually moves toward a hard-won resolution and a return journey.
