After portals open and monsters arrive from another world, humanity learns the visitors need something specific from humans to survive. This story follows Dante, a human who has been helping them, and Cielo, an injured Vyastil who has been banished and needs sanctuary while he heals.

As Dante shelters Cielo, he teaches him human language and customs while Cielo learns he may be worthy of care, pleasure, and affection. Their connection deepens from friendship into romance through caretaking, trust, and mutual support, while both characters grapple with their own pain and trauma.

The relationship unfolds alongside broader tensions between humans and Vyastil, with signs of political conflict, social inequality, and future storylines building in the background. Side characters, family, and friends remain active in the story, and the ending sets up the next book in the series.
