First published 2006
The Story
Two graduate students accept a large payment from a fertility clinic for egg donation, using the money to support their plans and studies. After the procedure, one of them becomes fixated on what happened to the donation and whether it led to children.
When the clinic refuses to reveal confidential records, the women decide to get answers from inside. They take jobs at the clinic under false identities and, with outside help, try to reach protected data systems and learn the truth about the clinic’s work.
Their investigation pulls them into a dangerous medical conspiracy involving secrecy, ethics, and illegal research. As they go deeper into the clinic’s operations, the women face escalating risk, with the story building toward an unresolved and abrupt finish.
