Royals

Shannon is heading to a shopping centre in Western Sydney when time seems to stop and everyone else disappears. Her phone freezes, the exits won’t open, and she discovers five other teenagers and a baby are trapped in the same strange situation.

With no adults, no Wi-Fi, and an endless supply of food, clothes, and other goods, the group settles into an uncanny routine inside the mall. As they spend more time together, they talk, argue, and open up about their lives outside the centre, gradually forming friendships and a makeshift family.

The longer they remain there, the more reality begins to shift around them, and questions about the mall’s strange rules, the baby, and the outside world grow harder to ignore. Shannon’s perspective stays close to the characters as they try to understand what is happening and whether they can, or even want to, leave.
