The Story
Two years after a pivotal assassination, London lives under a German-backed Protectorate where women are tightly classified, watched, and controlled. Rose Ransom survives by working at the Culture Ministry, where she edits literature and now poetry to fit the regime’s rules.
When a U.S. presidential visit approaches, Rose is sent to the secluded Queen Wallis to assess her and explain a propaganda campaign meant to soften the regime’s image. Wallis appears paranoid, restless, and eager for escape, but she also claims to possess information that could shake the Alliance.
As Rose is drawn into poetry circles, surveillance, and political maneuvering, she must navigate memory gaps, hidden loyalties, and the possibility of resistance. The novel builds toward revelations about what really happened before, what the regime has concealed, and whether Rose will remain compliant or choose defiance.
