The Hunchback Assignments

Raised in isolation after being rescued from a traveling freak show, Modo grows up under the watch of a mysterious mentor and learns unusual skills, from combat and stealth to disguise and intelligence work. He also discovers he can temporarily reshape his appearance, making him a valuable secret agent.

At fourteen, Modo is pushed out into London on his own as a test. There he survives by wit and training, working as a detective and then joining forces with Octavia, another young agent connected to the same secret organization.

Together they uncover a conspiracy involving a secret society, missing or endangered children, and a mad scientist using clocks, machines, and dangerous experiments. Their investigation leads them through Victorian London and its underground spaces as they try to stop a larger threat to the city and the British government.
