The Story
In a near-future Japan, police rely on an advanced DNA profiling system that can infer a suspect’s identity and traits from trace evidence. When a string of murders produces one untraceable profile and a top analyst becomes the prime suspect, the system’s promise of perfect justice begins to crack.
As the accused analyst flees, a skeptical detective pursues the truth through the case, the research institute, and the secrets behind the system’s creation. The investigation widens into questions about who controls the data, who is excluded from it, and why some people seem protected from scrutiny.
The case also draws in the analyst’s unstable inner life, with conflicting selves, trauma, and uncertain memory shaping what he can trust about himself. As the hidden program behind the system emerges, the story becomes as much about identity, power, and human value as about finding the killer.
