More about this book

The Story

Jonathan, an ordinary apprentice in a steampunk alternate London, is pulled into a crisis when a deadly plague begins killing women and threatens his own family. To help find a cure, he must work with a strange new chemical that creates shared illusions and reveals impossible rules about his world.

His search leads him into a parallel reality where illusion is both a science and a spectacle, and where the price of using the drug is far more terrible than he expected. As Jonathan learns to manipulate illusions, he becomes entangled with rivals, allies, and a dangerous system built around the substance.

Forced to keep moving between worlds, Jonathan must decide how far he will go to save the people he loves. Along the way, he faces escalating dangers, moral compromises, and revelations about the true cost of the illusionary world he has entered.
