Ray wakes up to find that his familiar life has vanished: his home is ruined, everyone he knew is gone, and the world around him has become dangerous and unfamiliar. As he tries to survive and make sense of the change, he discovers clues that suggest the disaster is connected to events he does not yet understand.

His search leads him to Eden, a tough young fugitive with her own reasons to keep moving. Together they travel through a world full of threats and strange new forms of humanity, while a mysterious diary offers a second thread of information from another time and gradually fills in the missing history of the world.

As the two strands of the story draw closer together, Ray and Eden uncover explanations that reframe what they thought they knew about the past, the present, and the people still hidden in the ruins. The journey becomes not just about survival, but about finding out what really happened and whether some secrets should have stayed buried.
