The Story

In 1890 Boston, people begin disappearing into a thick mist, and the police cannot explain why. April Malone works in a strange job for a mysterious employer she has never met, following odd routines and preparing for a life she does not understand.

When a metal door finally opens and Smith emerges, the two are pulled into an investigation of the vanishings. Their search leads through the city’s fog, sewers, and hidden machinery, while corrupt officials, a secret society, and a dangerous doctor complicate the case.

As the mystery deepens, Smith’s past and nature remain partly hidden, and the threat behind the disappearances proves more than a simple criminal scheme. The story moves quickly toward a confrontation that resolves the immediate danger while leaving larger questions open for later installments.
