More about this book

The Story

Three years after the events of the first book, Seske and Doka are trying to hold together a society that lives inside massive sentient space creatures. Doka has taken on leadership while the people around him debate reform, tradition, and whether their attempt at a better way of living can actually last.

When catastrophe on another world sends refugees their way, political pressure and social tensions intensify. Secrets from the past and conflicts within the family and leadership structures force characters to choose between loyalty, survival, and the possibility of a more mutual relationship with the Zenzee.

As Doka and Seske navigate power struggles, shifting alliances, and taboo relationships, they also confront the costs of the society they inherited. The story moves toward a final confrontation in which the future depends on whether humans can stop acting as parasites and live in genuine balance with the beings they inhabit.
