The Story
Janna-Berta is a teenager living in Germany when a catastrophic reactor accident sends radioactive danger spreading through the area. As alarms sound and authorities try to contain the situation, she and her younger brother are forced into a desperate attempt to reach safety.
The journey becomes a survival story shaped by chaos, fear, loss, and worsening conditions. Janna-Berta is separated from her family and must keep moving through panic, illness, and collapse around her as the disaster’s human consequences grow more severe.
After the immediate escape, the story continues into the aftermath, where injury, grief, and social breakdown remain in focus. The book tracks how Janna-Berta endures trauma while adults, officials, and the broader society react with denial, blame, or attempts to move on.
