Sara, an Earth woman, is abducted by alien creatures and wakes with only fragments of memory in a changed body on an unfamiliar planet. She finds herself assigned as a caretaker in a setting that resembles a sanitarium, where she is expected to act docile while watching over a seemingly helpless man.

As Sara slowly regains her senses, she realizes her patient is not simply insane or helpless, but a politically important captive being drugged and suppressed. She helps him escape, and the two become fugitives while Sara tries to hide the fact that she is a forbidden restoree and to understand the hostile society around her.

Their flight pulls Sara into the planet’s political power struggle and the larger threat facing the world, including alien enemies and internal corruption. As survival, loyalty, and attraction intensify, Sara must rely on her wit and courage while navigating identity, danger, and the consequences of being seen for what she has become.
