Lark Sterling joins a shipboard mission with one goal: track down the elusive Phoenix, the criminal leader tied to the loss of her family. To get close, she has to use a rare legal loophole and pose as the wife of Captain Damian Vaughn, a guarded military hero who prefers to work alone.

As they investigate a possible mole and follow a trail of secrets, lies, and coded messages aboard the ship, Lark and Vaughn are forced into close quarters and reluctant cooperation.
