The Story
In a near-future England split between privileged Pures and oppressed Dregs, children from poor or marginalized backgrounds are taken into a traveling circus where dangerous acts can become fatal entertainment. The circus is both spectacle and punishment, and its performers survive under brutal conditions while the ruling class watches for amusement.
The story follows two teenagers: Ben, the son of a powerful government minister, and Hoshiko, a young circus performer forced to survive in the arena. Their alternating perspectives show both the sheltered life of the elite and the daily danger faced by those exploited by the system.
When Ben visits the circus and meets Hoshiko, he begins to question what he has been taught about the world. Their connection pulls him toward the truth behind the society, and the two must decide whether they can trust each other and find a way out of the circus’s violent grip.
