More about this book

The Story

Thomas Covenant and Linden Avery continue the second Chronicles quest after the events of the previous book. With the Land still ruined and the old means of healing lost, they set out to find the One Tree, the source needed to remake the Staff of Law and challenge the forces corrupting the world.

The journey takes them away from the Land and across the sea aboard a giantship, accompanied by giants and Haruchai. Along the way they encounter strange peoples and perilous realms, including the Elohim, a desert kingdom, and other unfamiliar lands and beings that complicate the quest and test their trust in one another.

The voyage grows increasingly dangerous and psychologically intense as Covenant and Linden confront fear, guilt, trauma, and power under pressure. The quest reaches the island of the One Tree, but the outcome is difficult, costly, and left with major consequences for the characters and the larger struggle ahead.
